Boardwalk Empire – Pearl
A few years ago, my teacher Bruce Roberts suggested the best way to learn to draw quickly was to watch television. I started with Twin Peaks, and was immediately hooked. Due to the speed (and not looking at the paper), the results are rarely “pretty” but they somehow convey the character’s true personality. In this case, I’ve mangled her pretty lips, but I think the sad expression on her face, the scar, and her hair make it interesting. I now have a stack of 11 x 17 paper, categorized by season, waiting to be bound into a book.

It seems the field of graphic design and it’s entrepreneurial spirit has adapted very well to the web realm, especially as far as useful web services are concerned.
It also speaks to how elegant and easy many of these services are to use. They are designed first, and monetize later. Proof once more that good design is good business.
